Amritsar is a world famous city in the north-western part of Inia.It is the most revered spiritual place for the sikh religion and the administrative headquarters of the Amritsardistrict in the state of Punjab.
The naan-kulche, a Punjabi dish, of Amritsar is world famous for those who know about it. A famous Durgayani tample is also built, which is a duplicate copy of the Golden Temple. Agricultural University here is also wold famous.  Amritsar is located 217 Km. northwest of the capital state Chandigarh. It is situated near Pakistan with the Wagah border which is only 28 Km. to the left with the nearest city of Lahore in Pakistan.The main commercial activities include tourism, carpets and fabrics, farm produce, handicrafts, service trade, and light engineering. The city is well known for its rich cuisine and culture.Amritsar is one of the largest cities of Punjab state in India.

The city lies on the main Grand Trunk Road(G T Road) from Delhi to Amritsar connecting Lahore in Pakistan. The city is also connected to other major cities by an extensive network of rail system. The city is also connected to major Indian as well as international cities by airways through Raja Sansi International Airport, recently named as Guru Ram Das International Airport, named after the founder of the city. 


Golden Temple


 Amritsar houses the famous Harminder Sahib or the “GOLDEN TEMPLE”, the spiritual and cultural centre for the Sikh religion. This is the most popular destination of Non resident Indians (NRI) in the whole of India. Whole of its building is made of gold and hence the name. There are special lights arranged at its building on Guru’s birthday i.e. on 1st September. There is 24hrs. lunger continue. The palki in the shrine gets milk-bath everyday and there is a sarover, bathing in which treats all the incurable skin diseases (according to the beliefs of Sikh religion).
    

    


   Climate


    Amritsar has a semiarid climate, typical of Northwestern India and experiences four seasons primarily; winter season (November to March) , summer season(April to June) ,monsoon season(July to September) and post- monsoon season. Annual rainfall is about 681mm.
