SHAHASTRADHARA

Around 14 Km.from Dehradun is the cold water spring called Shahastradhara. “Shahastradhara”  literally means “thousand fold spring”. This name derives from the fact that the water literally drips down from limestone stalactites numbering thousands, formed in a sort of a grotto or cave. It is a lovely waterfall with a depth of 9 meters. What makes this torrent so popular is its therapeutic value since its water contains sulphur (gandhak).

        The water of these springs is said to have been blessed with sulphur from heavens. It has exceptional medicinal value, it cures all skin infections. Even drinking this water cures a large numer of stomach diseases. A bath in the Baldi river near the spring is said to rejuvenate one’s body and soul. This water has a fall of about 9meters and it leaves an incrustation of lime in all its touches. Particles thus accumulated over the centuries have formed a projecting ledge, and a sort of cave, from the roof of which falls a perpetual shower. This enchanting scenery and the lush vegetation makes the stunning point a tourist’s dream destination, where one can avail a tranquil holiday. This is an ideal picnic spot and is of immense attraction to visitors. The Baldi river and caves provide a breathtaking view.

               

From this place, facilities are provided for trekking, adventure, yoga, meditation and village tourism as well as outdoor recreation for corporate and individuals who wish to spend a weekend in a pollution and noise free environment.

Dehradun has good connectivity with other cities of the state of Uttarakhand and outside. 

By air

Jolly Grant Airport is around 25 kms from the Dehradun city.Taxis are available from Jolly Grant Airport to Dehradun city.

Nearest international airport is located in Delhi “Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI)”.

By Train

Dehradun  is connected to all important cities of India.

By Road

Dehradun  is connected by tourist bus services and state owned bus services. Luxury  and normal  bus are available from Delhi ISBT(kashmiri Gate).
